PAX-guide: FLOW vs FOUR vs MINI 2 – which PAX suits you?
By now, PAX has become something of a modern classic in the world of portable vaporizers. Its minimalist design is recognizable from across the room, buttons are kept to a minimum, and the philosophy has long been simple: advanced technology doesn’t have to look complicated.
But choosing a PAX has become a little more difficult.
With the PAX MINI 2, PAX FOUR and PAX FLOW, there are now three dry herb models that may look fairly similar on the surface, but are built around very different priorities.
PAX sums up the difference surprisingly well:
MINI for simplicity. FLOW for flavor. FOUR for power.
So, which one should you choose?
The short answer is that it depends on what you actually want from your vaporizer. The longer answer starts here.
PAX MINI 2 – Keep It Simple
The PAX MINI 2 is the entry-level model in the family, but “entry-level” shouldn’t be confused with the older PAX MINI.
Launched in 2025, the MINI 2 came with several important upgrades. It features a full-size oven compatible with the PAX Half Pack Oven Lid, four adjustable heat settings and around 45–60 minutes of battery life, which PAX estimates at roughly 3–4 sessions.
And simplicity is exactly the point.
You don’t need to buy the most advanced model in the family if what you’re really looking for is a compact dry herb vaporizer that’s easy to understand and easy to take with you.
The MINI 2 is also physically the smallest of the three. PAX lists its dimensions as 93 × 31 × 22 mm, compared with approximately 107 mm in height for both the FOUR and FLOW.
PAX MINI 2 is for you if you:
- want the smallest and simplest model
- prioritize portability
- want four adjustable heat settings
- want compatibility with the Half Pack Oven Lid
- don’t need FLOW’s airflow system or FOUR’s higher power output
In short: MINI 2 is PAX without the extras.
PAX FOUR – When You Want More Power
If the MINI 2 is about simplicity, PAX FOUR is about performance.
PAX describes the FOUR as the most powerful dry herb vaporizer they’ve built to date. At its core is a new high-output hybrid heater system, developed to deliver increased vapor production and denser clouds.
And PAX makes a pretty bold claim:
FOUR produces up to 50% more vapor than other PAX models, with the comparison explicitly including the PAX 2, PAX 3, PAX PLUS, PAX MINI and even the PAX FLOW.
That last part matters.
FLOW isn’t automatically “better” than FOUR simply because it sits at the more advanced end of the range. The two models are designed around different priorities.
FOUR features four temperature-controlled Heat Modes, a redesigned oven and oven door for improved airflow and easier loading, as well as automatic shutoff during sustained high-temperature use. According to PAX, the battery provides up to 50 minutes of use, or around five sessions, and charges via USB-C.
The internal construction is different too. PAX states that FOUR uses a proprietary stainless steel and ceramic heater surrounding the laser-welded oven and vapor pathway.
PAX FOUR is for you if you:
- prioritize vapor production and power
- want four different Heat Modes
- want longer battery life than the MINI 2
- want USB-C charging
- like the classic PAX format but want more performance
If your first question is “Which PAX gives me the most power?”, FOUR is the model PAX points to.
PAX FLOW – Built Around Flavor and Airflow
Then there’s the PAX FLOW, and this is where the design changes more significantly.
FLOW was developed with a focus on flavor, airflow and the draw experience itself. PAX states that its redesigned airpath delivers six times the draw strength of previous models. It also uses a completely redesigned hybrid heating system that combines conduction and convection, together with real-time temperature control.
In practical terms, hybrid heating means heat is transferred both through direct contact with the oven and through heated air passing through the material.
FLOW features five Heat Modes, ranging from flavor-focused settings to the highest mode, which PAX itself calls Bong Mode. Temperature is regulated in real time, with the system designed to adjust heat dynamically as you draw.
The oven is different too.
Instead of the classic design, the oven door is positioned on the side and can be removed completely. At the same time, the airpath is accessible from the oven all the way to the mouthpiece, making the device easier to access when cleaning. PAX recommends cleaning approximately every 3–5 sessions for optimal performance.
FLOW also features USB-C fast charging and can go from empty to 100% in under 40 minutes.
PAX FLOW is for you if you:
- put flavor high on your priority list
- want more open airflow and an easier draw
- want hybrid conduction + convection heating
- want five different Heat Modes
- appreciate fast USB-C charging
- want PAX’s most extensively redesigned model
FLOW isn’t built to win a competition for the biggest possible clouds. It’s built around how the vapor tastes and how the draw feels.
So, Which PAX Should You Choose?
It’s easy to compare vaporizers by asking which one is best. But with the current PAX lineup, that’s really the wrong question.
Instead, ask yourself what you prioritize.
I want something simple, compact and convenient
PAX MINI 2
You get four heat settings and the classic PAX experience in the smallest format in the family, without paying for features you may not need.
I want the most power and vapor
PAX FOUR
PAX is unusually clear on this one. FOUR is its most powerful dry herb model and is stated to produce up to 50% more vapor than the other models included in its comparison.
Flavor and airflow matter most
PAX FLOW
FLOW’s hybrid heating, wider airpath, five Heat Modes and real-time temperature control make it the model PAX has built around flavor and the draw experience.
Three PAX Models, Three Different Priorities
Perhaps the most important thing about this new generation of PAX devices is that the lineup no longer works like a simple ladder where a higher price automatically means “the same thing, only better.”
MINI 2 strips things back. FOUR turns up the power. FLOW rethinks the experience.
That makes the choice a little less obvious, but a lot more interesting.
Want a small, uncomplicated dry herb vaporizer? MINI 2.
Want to squeeze more power and vapor out of the PAX format? FOUR.
Would you rather prioritize flavor, airflow and a more advanced hybrid heating system? FLOW.
You don’t need to buy the most PAX.
Just the right PAX.
