Who are you and what do you do during the days?
I'm a salary slave, that's how I spend my days. It's something I would prefer not to do and it's not something I believe defines me so therefore I usually don't talk about it. It's just about getting money anyway. I live on the countryside which I'm also very happy for. I'm also introvert, not anti-social but introvert. I have a dog with ADHD who most likely would feel good after chewing some cannabis. I nerd a lot with the Internet, the computer and the site too.

Do you use cannabis?
I've really tried, really. I tried for the first time when I was 14 and then sporadically during high-school and then it was fun and prohibited, you hid in some bushes and laughed. However, I've always had friends who do it basically on a daily basis. My brain doesn't work that well on cannabis.

How is the difference between indica and sativa?
I become giggly and cozy of indica and "party-like", perfect for a sporadic cozy session from time to time. Sativa makes me tired for some weird reason and it makes me lose myself in the middle of sentences. I have several ADHD-friends whose brains become calmer from cannabis.

Why did you start High Society?
Me, as a weird person, wanted for a long time to do something for weird people. I've never really found my place and I've concluded that there should be gathering spots for nerdy and strange people. In dating applications i noticed that you often get stigmatized just because you're a drug liberal or user. The drug aspect was there from the start and it was originally thought to be for people who are social misfits or a bit off. The freedom to do whatever you want with your own body and getting accepted for who you are has also been a foundation stone.

You had a public opening on the 2nd of September, how did everything go?
Exactly, for two months I've also had open access for all the pre-registered users where 600 people registered. It went well! We started a fundraiser with which we succeeded and reached our goal at 12.500 SEK, from a total of 60 people. The donation is still open for people who want to donate to us.

So what is the typical user doing at High Society?
Well, originally we really wanted to combine community and dating, right now we have about 550 users who poke around, do stuff and create groups. They have created, for instance, an event where they will meet at the birthday of Christiania. It happens a lot in the forums too, it's exciting to see how it evolves!

Do you think that there are many people who would like to be members but don't dare to join?
It could be like that. Even before the whole thing started there were many who were paranoid of the police hacking our databases and stuff like that. I've explained many times how it actually works, legally, and that I've been trying to keep it as safe as possible for the users with SSL encryption, hosting at PRQ etc. We've also written in the terms that no buying or selling is allowed, in other words there's no reason for the police to care about it. This if everyone follows the rules, which they are.

Have you done any similar projects before High Society?
As I said I've wanted to do something for strange nerds, but this is my debute in starting my own. I've been hanging around many dating sites before and experienced them from a user's perspective, which also has given me a lot.

Is there anything else which makes the site stand out?
It's freedom-oriented. We practically also don't moderate or review anything, except in groups and events. You can use what picture you want, what presentation you want, how much (or little) info about yourself as you want. A small detail is that it's "multiple choice" on everything. Meaning that when you choose for instance ethnicity or hair colour you can choose how many alternatives as you wish, simultaneously.

What's your goal with High Society?
I want it to become a good hangout for liberal people, where they can date, discuss and hang out in a nice way so that the stigma can loosen a bit. I received a message from one of my users where he thanked me a lot for the site, he met a girl which now is his girlfriend, through the site. That felt really good to read!

What are you doing in 5 years?
Hopefully I'm doing more of these projects for other kinds of niches. Most of all, I would like to be able to provide for myself doing this so that I won't have to work on the side, like now.

Is there something else our readers should know about?
Yes, that we also offer VIP membership which gives a bit more content and a better search feature. The price is between 18 and 25 SEK per month depending on how long subscription you choose and it's definitely worth it! We will continue working with the site and develop new stuff, new features are on their way, so the site has not stopped. We keep going.

Thank you we say here at Smoketower and we hope that the stigma keep losing power and that as many of you as possible register at High Society! :)

PS: Write to us if you too would like to be interviewed and published at Smoketower.com!
